And so we start the Lunar calendar again in Aries. As the first sign of the Zodiac, with this powerful Full Moon conjunct Eris. Aries and Eris kind of go together well. Aries is a Cardinal sign and initiates. In other words Aries makes things happen. Mars is the ruler of Aries and Mars is our god of war, action, assertion , frustration and arguments. Mars is in Libra conjunct the Sun, which is our life force. And, in opposition to Eris. It’s useful to remind ourselves of the symbolism of Eris. This dwarf planet has an orbit cycle of 558 years and was discovered in 2005 its orbit is described by astronomers as eccentric. Certainly the mystical goddess Eris could be seen as a bit eccentric. She was the Goddess of strife and discord and was enraged because the Mount Olympian Gods did not invite her to a wedding. She turned up however and tossed a golden apple into the group of goddesses and the apple was inscribed with the words ‘for the fairest,’ the goddesses fought among themselves and Zeus had to choose the fairest to stop the squabbling. What he decided to do was to ask Paris to choose the winner, and because Aphrodite promised the love of the worlds most beautiful woman, Helen of Troy. Paris chose Aphrodite gained the love of Helen of Troy, which of course began the Trojan Wars.

So Eris is a bit of a mischief maker, and enjoys stirring up trouble and causing jealous squabbles that can escalate into full scale war. Her presence in this full moon, suggests we step forward cautiously as knee jerk decisions and actions can bring uncomfortable endings. That in turn bring ongoing disorder. Public riots and demonstrations can be suggested by this energy.

Saturn in Aquarius is making a harmonious link to Mercury in Libra, bringing us the hope that people will think carefully before initiating dramatic endings on changes. Saturn hopefully, brings a slowing down of peoples aggressive urges born out of indignant behaviour about what is our current truth.

However, if change is going to come through transformative energies, then the Pluto square from Capricorn to both the Full Moon and Eris, and also to the Sun conjunct Mars in Libra, is the energy that can trigger change and endings.

This Full Moon energy is very volatile so keep an eye on what’s occurring in the news at this time, and try to take a step back to see the bigger picture. It’s important that world leaders seek diplomacy in countering social unrest, and resist using force. On a personal level the same energy applies, in that we need to end what no longer serves us, to allow the new to come in, and for the personal transformation that can come from making tough, but fair and well thought through decisions.
